Do I need a burning permit in the Town?

The Town does not issue burning permits. Residents who are planning to burn should phone the Newburg Fire Department at the non-emergency number 262-675-6262 to find out about safe burning practices.

Occasionally environmental conditions will create the need for a burning ban in the Town. When a burning ban is put in place by the Newburg Fire Chief and Town Fire Warden Terry Hoffman the Town will attempt to alert residents by posting the ban on Town Notice Boards and by alerting the local newspapers.

The State of Wisconsin strongly discourages individual property owners from using burn barrels to dispose of household garbage and prohibits commercial facilities from using burn barrels. (see publication AM-199-96 W.D.N.R. below).

State law currently allows property owners to burn small amounts of dry leaves and brush on their property; however, the W.D.N.R. encourages composting or chipping of yard waste. The Town of Saukville does not have a municipal collection service of a drop-off center for yard waste. (see publication AM-198-96 W.D.N.R. below).
